This is the former site of Hurunui and Kaikoura PHO which covered the six medical practises in the area.
So what are PHOs? PHOs are Primary Health Organisations which were introduced by the New Zealand government in 2001. PHOs are not for profit and include GPs and other health organisations.
The basic idea is that a person is enrolled at one medical centre(PHO) and this is where they go every time to see the doctor. The advantages include lower fees and a wider range of available services. The patient can of course visit another doctor as a casual patient but will pay a much higher fee.
